The
Western Oklahoma River Road Run was born from sheer necessity!
 |
OSU
started a “Leadership Initiative” which was simply to promote leadership in
rural Oklahoma. Our group consisted of three counties, Blaine, Custer &
Dewey; we couldn’t have been from any closer geographically OR any farther
apart economically. Our official name was BCD Leadership Initiative, pretty
catchy huh? |
The
program lasted for one year and we all graduated with new ideas and goals.
None of
our group, as diverse as we were, wanted our relationship to end. We wanted
or needed a project that would expose our region to the public.
|
During
a meeting two of the Leadership students (one biker and one future biker)
were discussing that State Representative James Covey and Secretary of
Agriculture Terry Peach; (both bike riders) had ridden one of our secluded
and scenic roads in Dewey County and had simply loved it. They thought it
was a great secret. The two students knew what needed to happen; they got a
map and built the route right then and there. Don’t ask about the rest of
the meeting! |
 |
 |
When
the two students presented it to the rest of the Leadership group they were
excited with the idea for the most part. Some were scared of bikers and
some weren’t (which is scary in itself). But that didn’t stop us! We went
to work and planned the perfect event.
|
Our
goals were simple, to show the world that we had outstanding scenery,
beauty, excitement and great people, all in Western Oklahoma!!
|
This is
not your average Motorcycle Poker Run. We have taken the best Western
Oklahoma scenery, the great weather of Spring, the fun & thrills of
motorcycles, the fellowship of bikers, great western hospitality, and
combined it all with THE most important ingredient = FOOD. We provide 3
great meals to ease your pain of having to ride over 200 miles in sunny
spring weather, talking with fellow bikers, visiting down home places, and
not having any traffic jams to contend with. |
 |
With this combination you
have a winning hand. It is a great event.
The
crisp morning starts in Vici, Oklahoma, with an all you can eat, Vici Lions
Club breakfast, from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M.
 |
The first bike out will rack its
pipes at 9 o’clock signaling the beginning of the run. You will gather your
hand as you wind your way to Foss Lake for lunch. A delicious lunch will be
catered by the local 4-H Club while you overlook the dam. After lunch the
ride continues with more card stops and takes you across beautiful Canton
Lake Dam. The final card is drawn at Roman Nose State Park. The day is
completed with a big steak dinner with all the trimmings served by a local
group. |
There is usually trivia
regarding the ride, and of course, the results of the
poker run. Don’t you wish all days could be like this?
|
Be
assured that this ride will create lasting impressions about Western
Oklahoma that will leave you wanting more!!
See you on the ride!
